The Reciprocity initiative is about creating a way to connect people, return wealth, and make territorial recognition tangible. “When Craig Candler purchased a home in the Esquimalt area in 2004, he wanted to find a way to recognize, and honour, the Indigenous land he would be raising his family on.

Now he wants to put recognition into action through Reciprocity Trusts, a new social enterprise that offers renters and homeowners on Vancouver Island a chance to make voluntary, tax-deductible payments to a trust, that will distribute the funds to participating local Indigenous Nations. Participating Nations will make their own decisions on how the funds will be allocated, and will report back annually, said Candler.”
